About this GCSE

You can also have an exam board to select your IGCSE/International GCSE or A-level subjects. Exam boards are entities that provide students with certificates, and it is their duty to generate test papers, mark your job and award your score. We collaborate with two main boards to administer school exams: Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) and Pearson Edexcel. In 1988, GCSEs were implemented to create a national qualification for those who chose to leave school at 16 without seeking further academic studies for qualifications such as A-Levels or university degrees. They replaced the former CSE and O-Level qualifications, uniting the two qualifications to allow more students to have access to the full spectrum of grades. However, often the exam papers had a choice of questions intended for the applicants who were more competent and less capable. The GCSEs were graded on a letter scale from A to G upon introduction, with a C being set as roughly equivalent to an O-Level Grade C or a CSE Grade 1 and thus achievable by approximately the top 25% of each cohort
